How you connect your Medtronic 640g to Nightscout depends on how you intend to use it. It will determine exactly what you need to setup and get going. And how much time it takes to get it going and keep it running.
All installations require setting up a default Nightscout website of your own.
Please read instruction links carefully and in all cases, I strongly recommend you use a spare Bayer Contour Next 2.4 meter (after all, having quick access to your BG numbers is very important).
Currently, there are three main ways to setup Nightscout on the 640g. In terms of complexity, these are:

Currently, there are three main ways to setup Nightscout on the 640g. In terms of complexity, these are:
Small (the easiest)
Simple overnight monitoring or monitoring in a fixed location at home or school with WiFi Access
- Your 640g pump and CGM
- Bayer Contour Next Link 2.4 meter
- Bayer Contour Next Link 2.4 meter
- Windows* PC or Tablet to run CareLink with the Bayer plugged in
*The scripts could be easily adapted to run on Mac OSX, but I can't test / do this without the shiny Apple kit

Medium
When you need more mobility but can have a CareLink Tablet in the vicinity of the pump, eg at friends, events, the park...

| CHIP-PC connectivity over MiFi |
You'll need:
- Your 640g pump and CGM
- Bayer Contour Next Link 2.4 meter
- Bayer Contour Next Link 2.4 meter
- Windows* PC or Tablet to run CareLink (without Bayer plugged in) nearby (e.g. in your bag or a bag the PWD is carrying)
- An Android phone** / Pi Zero / CHIP to connect the Bayer to, which travels with your PWD.
- VirtualHere to provide USB IP connectivity: install the VirtualHere Client on the PC, the server on the phone / Pi / CHIP. Instructions on installing VirtualHere are on the VirtualHere website.
- WiFi or MiFi (from the phone or a separate device - eg Osprey Mini - with cellular connection, ideally 4G) nearby allowing both PC and phone/Pi/CHIP to connect to the same local network.

**With USB OTG (On-The-Go) support
I use this solution overnight at home (WiFi), school (WiFi) and away from home (MiFi).
Large (the hardest)
Full mobility, with PWD carrying Android Mobile phone and Bayer only and CareLink PC located remotely (e.g. back at home).
Please follow these instructions for guidance but please be aware that optimising this can be very difficult and not everyone has been successful in sustaining a reliable connection across networks (I can connect at home and not at school on 4G for example so it's not been much use...)

- Dynamic DNS service (unless your router as a fixed IP address)
- Patience and technical know-how to setup either Reverse Clients on VirtualHere or a VPN on your devices and router
I hope this short post helps clarify the different ways the current 640g Nightscout solution can be implemented.
