Bigfoot Exists!

Some T1Ds and their parents will have followed the legend of "Bigfoot" - the man who had set up an Artificial Pancreas for his T1D family... I first came across the story in this Wired Magazine article at Christmas.

Well, now Bigfoot has a name - Bryan Mazlish - and a story to tell (and a company to promote - Bigfoot Biomedical). Bryan has a T1D wife - who's also a Paediatrician - and T1D son, Sam, who is 9 years old. That's handy - a fully fledged clinical research evaluation unit in one household, complete with clinical and technical support and research subjects :-)

Bigfoot Biomedical has some impressive names at the top: Lane Desborough, former Chief Engineer at Medtronic's diabetes arm (I bet he could answer some of our 640g questions ;-) ) and Jeffrey Brewer (former CEO of JDRF in the States).

Diabetes Mine do a good job on the story here so I'll hand the back-story over to them. Hats off to Bigfoot - I'm not sure that even if I had the brainpower to work it all out, I could have wired up a closed-loop system on anyone apart from myself (if I was T1D).

One to watch for anyone wanting to see faster progress towards a more comprehensive Artificial Pancreas.
